About our doctors

A gap between the two front teeth, called a diastema, is one of the most common reasons people ask about smile treatment. There are three main ways to close it, and the right one depends on why the gap is there, how big it is, and what the rest of your smile looks like.

Why do gaps form in the first place?

Some gaps are simply genetic: the teeth are slightly small for the jaw. Others come from a thick band of gum (the frenum) between the front teeth, a missing or small side tooth, a tongue-thrust habit, or gum disease letting the teeth drift. That last one matters. If a gap has appeared or widened in adulthood, the gums should be checked first, because closing the gap without treating the cause usually fails.

Can Invisalign close a gap between the front teeth?

Yes. Invisalign or other orthodontic treatment moves your own teeth together, so nothing is added to them. It suits gaps of almost any size, especially when there are gaps elsewhere or the bite needs correcting too. A single gap can sometimes close in a few months. The trade-off is time, and a retainer afterwards to stop the gap reopening. Invisalign at our clinics usually costs between ₹1.5 and ₹3 lakh, confirmed after a 3D scan.

Is composite bonding a good option for a small gap?

Often, yes. Tooth-coloured composite is added to the sides of the teeth to fill the gap, usually in one visit, with no drilling. It suits small gaps on teeth that are otherwise a good shape and colour. The trade-offs: composite can stain and chip over the years and may need touch-ups, and closing a larger gap this way can make the teeth look too wide. At our clinics, composite bonding starts from ₹4,000 per tooth.

When are porcelain veneers the better choice?

Thin porcelain shells reshape the front of the teeth. They suit people who also want to change the colour, shape or length of their teeth, so the gap is closed as part of a wider smile makeover. Veneers need some preparation of the tooth surface and are a long-term commitment, so we don’t recommend them for a gap alone on otherwise healthy, good-looking teeth. Porcelain veneers start from ₹16,000 per tooth; the total depends on how many teeth are treated.

Can the options be combined?

Often, yes, and that frequently gives the most natural result. A common plan is a short course of Invisalign to bring the teeth into a better position, followed by small bonding or veneers to perfect the shape. Moving teeth first usually means less needs to be added or removed afterwards.

How do you choose the right option?

At Nanda Dental Clinic, an orthodontist and a periodontist can assess your case together, so the gums, the bite and the appearance are all considered before anything is decided. We’ll scan your teeth with an iTero scanner and talk you through which options suit your teeth.
