Dr. Smriti Nanda

Dr. Smriti Nanda, MDS Orthodontics and an Invisalign Diamond Provider, has spoken on NDTV Lifeline about children’s dental health. Seeing an orthodontist early means problems with how the teeth and jaws are growing are spotted while they are easier to guide.

Making the visit easy

  • At Golf Course Road, ceiling screens let children watch a show while we work.
  • No putty impressions: a quick 3D scan if moulds are needed.
  • Laughing gas is available for anxious patients where the dentist judges it suitable.

When to bring your child

  • First dental visit: when the first tooth appears, or by their first birthday.
  • Regular check-ups: usually every six months.
  • First orthodontic check: around age 7, when early bite problems can be spotted. Read when a child should see an orthodontist.

Protecting children’s teeth from decay

  • Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste: a smear for under-threes, a pea-sized amount after that.
  • Keep sweets, juices and sticky snacks to mealtimes rather than all day. See chocolates and oral health.
  • Don’t put a baby to bed with a bottle of milk or juice.
  • Sealants on the back teeth help protect the grooves where decay often starts.

Why baby teeth matter

Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth, help children chew and speak properly, and decay in them can cause pain and infection. Losing them too early can lead to crowding later, so they are worth looking after even though they fall out.

Teenagers

Many teenagers can straighten their teeth with Invisalign or braces. Dr. Smriti, an orthodontist, plans these treatments herself.
